War of the Worlds (2005) cast and crew credits, including actors, actresses, directors, writers and more. Ray Ferrier (Tom Cruise) is a dockworker living in New Jersey, divorced from his first wife Mary Ann (Miranda Otto) and estranged from his two children Rachel and Robbie (Dakota Fanning and Justin Chatwin), of whom he has custody on weekends.
M16A2 can be seen behind Ray's shoulder. M4A1 CarbineIn the several scenes, US Army soldiers can be seen carrying carbines, most notably while directing refugees through Boston near the end of the film. When an alien dies after its' tripod is disabled, one of the soldiers uses the barrel of his M4A1 to lift and then drop the aliens' arm to confirm it is truly dead.
The M4A1's in the film are seen fitted with various accessories such as RIS foregrips, M68 Aimpoint, ACOG, and AN/PVS-14 night vision scopes, C-More red dot sights, Surefire Universal weaponlights, and AN/PEQ-2 laser systems. They can also be seen in the hands of Marines during the hilltop battle scene. A US soldier approaches a dying alien with his M4A1 at the ready.
Machine Guns M240 Machine GunIn the scene where Ray and Robbie are arguing as the Army convoy passes, several can be seen, both mounted on the vehicles and in the hands of some of the soldiers riding in them. Army & Marine Corps M1 Abrams tanks and Marine Corps LAV-25 armored personnel carriers are also equipped with M240 machine guns; the Abrams having an M240C coaxially-mounted next to the main gun and both the Abrams and LAV-25 having the M240D version mounted atop the turret. A US Marine fires the M240D machine gun mounted at the Commander's hatch of his LAV-25 when counterattacking the Tripods. An M240C machine gun can also be seen coaxially mounted next to the main gun on the M1A1 Abrams behind the LAV Browning M2HB Heavy Machine GunThe heavy machine gun appears twice in the film; first mounted on US Army vehicles in a convoy that passes by the Ferriers, then on US Marine Corps vehicles in the hilltop battle scene, most notably on a burning Humvee rolling past Harlan Ogilvy 's house.
A group of USMC AH-1W Super Cobras armed with chin-mounted M197 Vulcans prepare to engage the tripods. Note that these are CGI aircraft as they lack the correct color scheme for real USMC helicopters and are missing the landing skids. Shotguns Winchester Model 1912Harlan Ogilvy can often be seen with a shotgun close by him, first seen holding it in the air following the hilltop battle scene to signal Ray and his daughter Rachel to him.
He comes close to using it when some of the aliens are prowling around the basement of his house where he, Rachel, and Ray are hiding, but is stopped by Ray for fear that opening fire would reveal their location to the aliens. A soldier with an M203PI mounted on his M4A1 Carbine in the background. Visible in this shot is the horizontal groove on the frame of the grenade launcher which identifies it as an M203PI. FGM-148 JavelinAnother weapon used in the final battle scene of the movie is the anti-tank guided missile launcher, used by US Army soldiers to attack a tripod. An army squad leader is heard calling for one of his men to bring 'the javelin'. Despite the squad leader saying that the tripod will require a 'top kill' (utilizing the missile's top-attack mode), the soldiers fire the missiles straight at the tripod, which the Javelin cannot actually do as even its direct attack profile climbs and descends diagonally.
